Liberty and Justice for All

Today we discussed that liberty means the freedom to do what one wants. Justice means that everyone is treated fairly or that no one else's freedoms limit or disrupt your freedoms. What do you see as the biggest issue or conflict between liberty and justice in our society today. Explain your thoughts on the issue.

Dangerous Dogs

There is a new push to prevent dog attacks in Texas.

An East Texas mother, who lost her 10-year-old son after he was mauled by pit bulls, is working to draft legislation called Justin's Law.

Serenia Clinton's attorney says the ultimate goal is banning ownership of pit bulls. But a responsibility bill for owners of dangerous dog breeds, like pit bulls and rottweilers, would be a step in the right direction.

"Some people have pit bulls and they think their pit is a safe pet, unfortunately, they're a safe pet until they act on their abnormally dangerous propensities," says the Clinton's attorney, Cynthia Kent.

Kent says she hopes to have a draft of Justin's Law in the hands of state lawmakers within 30 days. She plans to file the draft before the next legislative session begins in January.

Do you think certain breeds of dogs should be banned? It is already illegal for people to have certain wild animals as pets, like tigers for instance. What are your thoughts on this topic? Support your ideas with evidence and your own experience. Answer in a complete paragraph.

Why Get a College Degree

We recently read an article in class titled "Why Get a College Degree." The article listed 5 reasons why people choose to not go to college:
1. I can't afford it.
2. Nobody in my family has ever gone.
3. I don't know what I want to do with my life.
4. College is too hard for me.
5. I just won't fit in.
Out of these 5 reasons which do you feel would interfere with your decision to go to college and why? What can you do to prepare yourself so that none of these things interfere with your choice to go to college?
